Choose PSM I ifā¦
- you want to study on your own, at your own speed
- you want a lower total cost and no renewal fees
- you are good at learning from a written guide and practice tests
- you want a certification that proves you passed a demanding test (85% pass mark)
Choose CSM ifā¦
- you learn best in a live class with a trainer and other students
- your employer pays for training and prefers a course
- you want to network with other people in a class
- you are fine with renewing every two years
Which one is harder?
The CSM test is shorter and has a lower pass mark, and you take it right after a two-day class. The PSM I test has more questions, less time per question and an 85% pass mark, so most people need more self-study for it. Neither is ābetterā for everyone: choose the one that fits how you learn and what your employer asks for.
Can I do both?
Yes. Both are based on the same Scrum Guide. Some people take a CSM class through work and then take PSM I to prove their knowledge in a harder test. If you study for one, most of the work also prepares you for the other.
