How to use this test

Give yourself about 7 minutes: the real PSM I gives you 45 seconds per question. To pass the real assessment you need 85%, which is 9 of these 10. If you miss a question, read the explanation and the Scrum Guide part it comes from.

Question 1 What is the maximum length of a Sprint?

Show the answer

Answer: C. The Scrum Guide says Sprints are fixed-length events of one month or less. “Four weeks” is close, but not the rule. The Product Owner cannot make a Sprint longer than one month.

Question 2 Who creates the Sprint Goal?

Show the answer

Answer: D. The Product Owner proposes how the product could increase its value, and then the whole Scrum Team works together to define the Sprint Goal in Sprint Planning.

Question 3 Who is accountable for ordering the Product Backlog?

Show the answer

Answer: B. Ordering the Product Backlog is one of the Product Owner's accountabilities. The Product Owner may ask others to help, but stays accountable.

Question 4 How long is the Daily Scrum?

Show the answer

Answer: A. The Daily Scrum is a 15-minute event for the Developers, every working day of the Sprint, whatever the team size.

Question 5 Who has the authority to cancel a Sprint?

Show the answer

Answer: B. Only the Product Owner can cancel a Sprint, and a Sprint should be cancelled only if the Sprint Goal becomes obsolete. Others can influence the decision, but cannot make it.

Question 6 When is an Increment born?

Show the answer

Answer: C. The Scrum Guide says that the moment a Product Backlog item meets the Definition of Done, an Increment is born. It may be delivered to stakeholders before the end of the Sprint.

Question 7 In the middle of the Sprint, the Developers see that they selected more work than they can finish. What should happen?

Show the answer

Answer: C. Scope may be clarified and renegotiated with the Product Owner as more is learned. The Sprint Goal stays. Sprint length never changes, and the Scrum Master cannot cancel a Sprint.

Question 8 What are the three pillars of Scrum?

Show the answer

Answer: B. Scrum is founded on empiricism, with three pillars: transparency, inspection and adaptation. Commitment, focus, openness, respect and courage are the five Scrum values.

Question 9 What is the Scrum Master's part in the Daily Scrum?

Show the answer

Answer: B. The Daily Scrum is for the Developers. The Scrum Master makes sure it happens and teaches the team to keep it within 15 minutes, but does not lead it. The three questions are no longer part of the Scrum Guide.

Question 10 What is the commitment for the Product Backlog?

Show the answer

Answer: C. Each artifact has a commitment. Product Backlog → Product Goal. Sprint Backlog → Sprint Goal. Increment → Definition of Done.
